Designer Hotel: Star Lodge Review

Coming from the States, I am constantly impressed by the unique style and design in Dutch Hotels. Especially one like Star Lodge Hotel, who boast on their economic price point and cozy atmosphere. As a young, twenty something finding a space that is both budget friendly and trendy is always at the top of my list, but not so easy to find. Star Lodge Hotel in Utrecht had just that.

Upon arrival Friday night, we were impressed by the convenient, private parking area and how accessible the hotel is from the highway and the city centre. Also, we were happily greeted by the friendliest staff. They explained to us the best way to navigate through the city, showed us our room, and made sure we knew about the self-service bar (you can make your own Gin & Tonic, every hotel needs this!) We settled in to our room, than enjoyed a drink by the fireplace -- best way to unwind after a long road trip.

The rooms at Star Lodge Hotel are comfortable, clean, and quite large in my opinion. We had plenty of room to unpack and hang our clothing in the wardrobe next to the bed and a desk to place all of our camera gear, computers, and snacks -- because who doesn't travel without a huge bag of snacks? Out our window was a creek and greenway, since it's winter the trees were bare, but I imagine in the summer it's such a lovely view seeing the park.

Star Lodge is conveniently located outside of the city centre directly across from a bus stop, so it was super easy for us to hop on the local transportation and take it directly into Dom Square. Also, for a round trip it's only 2.70€ and that'll get you in and out of the city in no time. Later in the evening on Saturday, we had dinner reservations a bit out side of the city, which was also great that we were not having to fight bicycle traffic in the city (it's thing, especially when you're visiting the bicycle capital of the world). All in all, our stay was fantastic! It truly felt like a 4 star experience at 3 star price point. Definitely will be staying in other Star Lodge Hotels in the future.
