Mallorca photo diary: part I

We spent ten days in Mallorca in late July after traveling to the Netherlands and Germany. After a busy work season, it was so nice to unplug and relax finally with zero agenda besides drinking good wine, eating paella, and jumping in the ocean. It had been over ten years since we last visited Spain, and somehow it was even more gorgeous than when we spent time here in 2012.

We took an early flight from Bremen, Germany, with RyanAir to Mallorca. Since we were coming from Leer, it was an easy journey, and luckily we didn’t have to deal with the horrible airport crowds everyone had warned us about. The flight was smooth sailing, and we arrived in Mallorca on time. Unfortunately, we spent 3+ hours at the airport before heading to our Airbnb in Soller because the car company gave us a manual instead of an automatic. That week of lessons in Germany learning how to drive a stick did me no good 4+ years later. After many phone calls, a couple of cups of coffee, and waiting in a parking lot for longer than I would have liked, we finally got an automatic.

From there, we drove from Palma Mallorca Airport northeast towards Soller. We arrived at our rustic but gorgeous Airbnb up in the mountains. Pilar, our host, greeted us with a warm smile, cold beers, and a delicious “coca de trampó," a Mallorcan flatbread. The drive up was adventurous but worth it for the views and sunsets. We were lucky to spend four days in Pilar’s Finca on the mountain; it was so peaceful and relaxing.

One of my favorite parts of the trip was our hike to Sa Foradada. The views were incredible, the trail had maybe five other people on it on our way out, and we were able to have lunch at Sa Foradada at the end of the trail. But here’s a hot tip, if you can’t get a reservation, try to get there right when they open and see if they’ll squeeze you in. If they don’t, no worries. The hike is still spectacular, and there’s a swimming spot that’s worth it alone.

There’s so much more I could say about this trip and our time in the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, but I think the photos below say so much more than I could.
