A Winter Escape: Heidelberg Suites

Heidelberg Suites Hotel 2017

Heidelberg is a city that I keep finding myself back to and falling more and more in love. It's a little town nestled between the beautiful German hills overlooking the Neckar River, so blissful.  When people ask me my top cities in Germany to visit, Heidelberg always makes the list without hesitation.

When I had the opportunity to visit this magical little town during the Christmas season, I was beyond thrilled.  I was daydreaming of mulled wine, Christmas markets, and eating my weight in too many German pastries. Our little weekend away in Heidelberg met and even surpassed all expectations, mostly because we stayed in the most romantic spot overlooking the Neckar and city at Heidelberg Suites.

It's not often that I stay in a hotel that feels more "cozy" than my actual home.  My husband, Michael, and I kept saying how Heidelberg Suites was decorated so elegantly and classic -- it's truly a timeless space.

Upon arriving, the hotel doesn't even feel like a hotel.  It feels more like your visiting your an old friend's home (quite large and magnificent home), where each room is uniquely decorated and designed. Although we didn't stay in the main building with the front desk and lobby, our suite was just a few steps away from where we'd have our delicious breakfast each morning.  I really enjoyed having a separate entrance to our building -- it made it feel more intimate and private.

The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect.  It sits across from the Old Town of Heidelberg and boasting incredible views of the castle.  I loved waking-up each morning to see the castle nestled in-between the hills and the lights from the Christmas market gleaming from below.

On the large terrace surrounding the suites was a personal hot tub.  I'm usually not a huge fan of hot tubs, but it was the most relaxing part of the whole trip.  We had snow on our second day in Heidelberg and sitting outside with the snow falling while you're warm in the hot tub is absolutely divine. Not all of the suites have personal hot tubs, but there is one for general use near the onsite fitness studio that has even better views of the city. I'm wishing I would have taken advantage of that one as well.

Each morning we enjoyed an amazing breakfast spread in the main building where we could order fresh eggs, omelets, and other warm dishes.  The buffet was full of healthy options, homemade yogurts and pastries, and an array of fresh meats and cheeses.  We set in this gorgeous room that overlooked the Neckar and you could see the city of Heidelberg as well.

On our last morning it was snowing so heavily that while we were enjoying our breakfast I kept saying this looked like a scene from a movie. We had our delicious breakfast in the most elegant and cozy room while listening to jazzy Christmas music watching the snow fall. I was in heaven to say the least.

One of my favorite aspects about the hotel was the exceptional service we received.  Upon arrival the staff was attentive, friendly, and extremely welcoming. Every person on staff we met was genuinely happy and thrilled to be working there and they were happy to help us with everything.  Their first class service really stood out to me and was a rarity.

I would go back to the Heidelberg Suites each weekend if I could.  It's such a relaxing and beautiful hotel with the perfect location.  It was almost a pity how much time we spent in our room with all of the lovely Christmas activity going on. However,  it was just that great of a space.  I'm thankful for the opportunity to stay with Heidelberg Suites & I appreciate their hospitality and kindness hosting us.
