Burg Eltz: Day Trip to One of Germany's Gems

Burg Eltz is magic. Seriously.  I had seen so many pictures of this dreamy, Germanic castle, but they still didn't do it justice. It's like walking through a magical Disney story tale.

We arrived to Eltz Castle on a foggy, Sunday morning and I was a bit concerned the fog would block all the majestic views, but we were lucky enough that it made it that much more incredible. This 850+ year old "Burg" (there is a difference in burgs vs. schloss -- you can read about that here) is nestled so beautifully into the forest with streams surrounding it.

We went in the winter, so were unable to attend a museum tour, but it was still worth it.  You could stay for hours walking the grounds, having a picnic outside the castle, and of course taking a few selfies.

If you're in Germany for some time, this is definitely worth the trip! I mean, what's Germany without visiting a few castles?

Pro Tip: Bring a pretzel and beer to enjoy outside of the castle!

If you plan to visit Burg Eltz, I would suggest taking a rental car.  Lots of windy roads, and beautiful scenery along the way.
